Bespoke Manufacturing Protocol

Custom Handwoven Bag Development, OEM and ODM

We are a custom bag manufacturer in Dongguan, working directly with your design team. As a handwoven custom bag manufacturer we connect your brief to our patternmakers and master weavers. Tote bags, crossbody builds and other silhouettes are developed from one brief; the custom bag manufacturer you speak to is the team that produces the order. Send sketches, 2D CADs or reference bags to receive a production-grade prototype in 10–15 days.

Clear Timelines

Three-Stage Development Progression

Predictable milestones from initial briefing to container loading. No guesswork on lead times.

Stage 01

Briefing & Feasibility

1–2 Days Evaluation

We evaluate your tech pack for weave stitch tension, bottom support feasibility, handle load vectors, and material yield. We provide clear technical feedback and preliminary unit costing before you commit sample fees.

  • • Engineering structural review
  • • Swatch & fibre recommendation
  • • Transparent sample & bulk quotation
Stage 02

Pattern & Physical Sample

10–15 days

Our patternmakers draft full-scale paper patterns, build forming blocks if required, and dye sample yarns to brand colour-card references. Artisans handweave the prototype, finish interior linings, and attach custom trims.

  • • Full-scale physical bag sample
  • • Dimensional tolerance inspection
  • • Express courier delivery worldwide
Stage 03

Bulk Handweaving

30–45 Days (Standard) / 45–60 Days (custom dyeing and tooling)

Upon written sample approval and golden sample lock, bulk material is inspected and dyed in uniform batches. Senior artisans execute handweaving under piece-by-piece supervision, ensuring dimensional consistency across all 100+ pieces. This is the stage where bulk programmes are produced the same way, and where pricing is finally locked.

  • • Mid-production photo updates
  • • finished-piece QA audit
  • • Heavy-duty export packaging & FOB/DDP dispatch

Material Options

Natural, Engineered Textile & Synthetic Materials

Natural fibres remain our main line. Engineered textile cords and synthetic materials — PU, polyester, PVC, neoprene, EVA, acrylic and cotton blends — are part of current production and can be specified in your brief. Other materials are evaluated before sampling.

Common questions

What do you need to start a development project?

A sketch, a tech pack, a reference sample or a written brief. The more of the silhouette, dimensions, material direction and branding you can specify, the faster the first prototype comes back.

How long does a counter-sample take?

Counter-sampling takes 10–15 days from receipt of technical specifications and material approval. Standard bulk production is 30–45 days from final sample sign-off; 45–60 days where custom dyeing or new hardware tooling is required.

Can you work in materials outside natural fibres?

Plant fibres are our main line, and we also work in engineered textile cords and mixed structures. Materials you nominate are assessed for feasibility before sampling starts.

What is the minimum order after sampling?

Our baseline production minimum is 100 pcs per style. For synthetic and textile cord constructions the MOQ is 100–300 pcs, depending on the cord type. Minimums can be negotiated by collection or by individual style.

Can we work directly with a custom bag manufacturer in China?

Yes. WEFTAVA is the manufacturer, not a trading company: your brief goes to our own patternmakers and weavers in Dongguan. That covers totes, crossbody bags and other custom carrying bags, with one point of contact for sampling, bulk and quality control.

Do you make custom sling bags?

Yes. Custom sling bags are developed from the same brief and pattern process as our totes and crossbody bags. Strap width, drop and closure can be adjusted for a customised sling bag programme, with a physical sample in 10–15 days.

Can you add a zipper closure to a tote?

Yes. A custom tote bag with zipper is a common request: we match the zip tape to your cord and lining. The puller can carry your logo — a bag with a custom logo zipper pull is tooled in-house — and custom zipper tote bags follow the same sampling route as any other custom carry bag.

Do you work in jute or burlap?

Yes. Burlap is a coarser jute weave, and we run it alongside our raffia, straw and cotton cord lines. Custom burlap bags can be specified in natural or dyed tones. Personalized burlap bags and personalized burlap tote bags are usually branded with a debossed patch or embroidery rather than print.
